  1. United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict is annually observed on 19 June to raise awareness of the need to put an end to conflict-related sexual violence. The theme of International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict 2023 is “Bridging the gender digital divide to prevent, address and respond to conflict-related sexual violence”.
  2. World Sickle Cell Day, also known as ‘World Sickle Cell Awareness Day’ is annually observed across the globe on 19 June to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease and its impact on individuals, families, and communities worldwide. The theme of World Sickle Cell Awareness Day 2023 is “Building and strengthening global sickle cell communities, formalizing newborn screening and knowing your sickle cell disease status”.
  3. National Reading Day is annually observed across India on 19 June to mark the death anniversary of Puthuvayil Narayana Panicker (PN Panicker), who is fondly known as the Father of the Library Movement in Kerala. The observance aims to encourage the habit and culture of reading and to promote literacy.
  4. The Asia Cup 2023 will be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka in a hybrid model from 31 August to 17 September 2023, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced.
  5. The Grammy Awards will introduce three new categories, Best African Music Performance, Best Pop Dance Recording, and Best Alternative Jazz Album. These new categories will be introduced at the 2024 GRAMMYs, officially known as the 66th Grammy Awards.
  6. On 18 June 2023, the SpaceX (Space Exploration Technologies Corporation) successfully deployed a new Indonesian communications satellite named SATRIA-1 (Satellite of the Republic of Indonesia) to geosynchronous transfer orbit. 
  7. The Ministry of External Affairs celebrated Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Day under India’s SCO Chairmanship and also released a postage stamp to commemorate the occasion.
  8. Union Minister of Heavy Industries Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey unveiled the ground-breaking ‘Dugdh Sanakalan Sathi Mobile App’ at Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.
  9. Five of the landmark building structures of Telangana has been awarded with the International Green Apple Awards for Beautiful Buildings in the Urban and Real Estate Sector category. For the first time any building or structure in India has received these prestigious awards.
  10. Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), one of India’s largest oil refiners, has announced its collaboration with LanzaJet, a leading sustainable fuels technology company, to establish an aviation fuel plant in Haryana.
  11. The Jammu district has topped the table of the District Good Governance index with an overall score of 6.37 out of 10.
  12. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship has successfully certified 98 trainers who participated in the cluster-based Training of Trainers (ToT) project.
  13. Electronic signage systems known as Justice Clocks have been installed across the court complexes of High Courts.
  14. Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched mascot named ‘Moga’ for the 37th edition of the National Games, at a launch ceremony held at Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Taleigao, Goa.  
  15. On 16 June 2023, Google has launched the ‘Indian Languages Programme’ under the Google News Initiative (GNI), to support local news publishers in India improve their digital operations and reach more readers.
  16. Veteran Journalist Ashok Kumar Bhattacharya has authored a new book titled ‘India’s Finance Ministers: From Independence to Emergency (1947-1977)’ which highlights the role of India’s Finance Ministers who shaped India’s economy in the first 30 years after independence.
